The situation
- An in-house team of three developers planned to scale down to two.
- Two Angular projects were not progressing because the team was busy elsewhere.
- The CTO wanted an assessment before any open-ended spend.
What we found
- There was no proper state management, which caused performance issues.
- Components were mixed-purpose, and platform layers were mixed with business logic.
- Unit-test coverage was weak, and there were no end-to-end tests.
What we did
Two-week review
A Google Developer Expert architect reviewed the Angular code and architecture.
Recommendations log
We delivered a recommendations log and an ROI deck with a skill plan for NgRx, RxJS, Nx and clean code.
Delivery timeline
We planned a move to an Nx workspace, a separate component layer, NgRx state and team mentoring.
Architecture options
We compared a total refactor with a widget-based architecture, with a web-component proof of concept.
The result
- SwitchDin received a clear path for state management, testing and code structure.
- Its NPS was 9 in May 2021 and 10 every month from June to September 2021.
- The engagement grew from a review into a proposal for a larger widget architecture project.
