Case study · Community college; a strategic planning app for the executive leadership team

Heartland Community College: a strategic planning app, live before the deadline

Heartland Community College needed a new strategic planning web application for its executive leadership team, built in modern Angular to replace an older system. Briebug brought in engineering, UX, project management and DevOps skills when they were needed, and mentored the internal team.

  • Angular
  • Firebase
  • Google Cloud Platform

The challenge

  • Build the strategic planning web application used by the executive leadership team in modern Angular.
  • Replace an older system.
  • Meet a firm deadline set by the CIO.

What it needed

  • Module 1, Smart Actions, and Module 2, the Continuous Improvement MVP.
  • Dashboards and administration tools for the leadership team.

What we did

Design and planning

UX design, product planning, architecture and agile project management from the start of the work in July 2021.

Angular and Firebase build

A senior engineer and a mid-level developer built the app in Angular on Firebase, with a Google Cloud Platform DevOps engineer added in August 2021.

Wrap-up improvements

Dashboard performance improvements, administration tools and defect fixes in January 2022.

Knowledge transfer

Mentoring during the build, then knowledge transfer and signed off-boarding plans when the team rolled off.

The result

  • Modules 1 and 2 were live and in business use by December 15, 2021, before the client's deadline.
  • The system was stable, and the CIO reported positive end-user feedback.
  • The college returned for a maintenance engagement in April 2023.
