ERCOT: embedded developers and solution architecture for a grid application

ERCOT needed more development and architecture capacity for its RIOO-RS application. Briebug won the work through an RFP and worked inside ERCOT's Scrum teams from August 2020 to March 2022.

  • Angular
  • Java
  • Nx
  • Artifactory
  • Scrum

The situation

  • ERCOT needed development and solution-architect capacity for its RIOO-RS application.
  • Architecture requirements were still being discovered.
  • Feature and UX design were iterative.

What we did

Embedded Scrum developers

Our developers joined ERCOT's Scrum teams and followed its Definition of Ready and Definition of Done.

Solution architecture

Our solution architect recorded options and trade-offs in the Detailed Design.

Angular and Java work

We worked on the Angular UI and the Java APIs and libraries, and gave Agile guidance and mentorship.

Monorepo plan

We planned a move to an Nx and Artifactory monorepo and a merge of two applications into one Angular app.

Knowledge transfer

We documented the refactor patterns and ran lunch-and-learn sessions so ERCOT's team could maintain the app.

The result

  • The engagement ran about 20 months, from August 2020 to March 2022.
  • ERCOT extended the work through five amendments.
  • It ended with a planned knowledge transfer to ERCOT's teams.
