Emagispace: a code assessment and team training for an internal ERP

Emagispace ran an internal ERP system built in Angular and wanted to raise its quality. In 2018 Briebug evaluated the code, wrote recommendations for management and developers and trained the team.

  • Angular
  • NgRx

The situation

  • Some pages in the internal ERP system had grown too large.
  • The development team was fighting bugs.
  • IT leadership wanted to bring the system up to a higher standard.

What we found

  • The worst pages needed a plan to break them into smaller components.
  • Pages should be refactored into container and presentational components.
  • The app needed feature modules, with app.module reduced to fewer than 75 lines.
  • Forms could use NgRx basics, with an @Output that emits formGroup value changes.

What we did

Code evaluation

We evaluated the Angular codebase under an evaluation agreement that started in January 2018.

Written recommendations

We delivered a recommendations document for management and developers on March 22, 2018.

Team training

We ran a training session for the development team in the week of March 19, 2018.

Follow-on proposal

We proposed a one-week follow-on with a dedicated senior developer to fix bugs and start the refactor.

The result

  • The development team received a written plan for the refactor.
  • The client named a custom build by its own developers, with Briebug's help, as its preferred option.

Tell us what is broken.

A short call with a senior engineer. Tell us what is happening, and we will tell you honestly whether an assessment is the right next step.
