Circadence: a team extension to replace a Unity client with React

Circadence wanted to replace the Unity client of its training platform with a new React web application. Briebug extended its team from 2021 into 2022.

  • React
  • Next.js
  • Nx
  • GraphQL
  • Python
  • Go
  • Azure
  • Jest

The situation

  • The Unity client created problems with maintenance and upgrades.
  • Maintenance was expensive, and the code base was complex and fragile.

What we did

Set up the front end

We scaffolded the project with Nx, then Next.js, with TypeScript types generated from the federated gateway.

Built the UI

We added Chakra UI, ag-grid, Formik and Yup, react-query, a dark and light theme and an internationalization proof of concept.

Added quality tools

We set up ESLint, Prettier, pre-commit hooks, Jest and React Testing Library.

Shipped features

We built login and add-user screens, a curriculum database and a dashboard for trainers and professors.

Improved the process

We guided the move from waterfall to Scrum and helped write clear requirements and acceptance criteria.

The result

  • The joint retrospective recorded that the site was live, functional and delivered on time.
  • Circadence extended the engagement twice: engineers through December 2021, then a requirements engineer into 2022.

Tell us what is broken.

A short call with a senior engineer. Tell us what is happening, and we will tell you honestly whether an assessment is the right next step.
