BACB: an outside Angular review before adding new modules

BACB had an in-house Angular application and planned to add new modules. Before it did, it asked Briebug to review its Angular implementation.

  • Angular
  • RxJS
  • Jest
  • Cypress
  • Prettier
  • NetSuite

The situation

  • BACB planned to add new modules to its in-house Angular application.
  • It wanted an outside review of the Angular implementation before that work started.

What we found

  • Areas to improve included monorepo use, testing, RxJS, data conventions, package structure and code conventions.
  • Prettier, NgModules and the HTTP services that call NetSuite also needed attention.
  • Performance fixes would need fundamental architecture changes.

What we did

Reviewed the code

We completed a technical assessment of the current Angular implementation.

Presented on site

We presented the findings to the team at BACB in November 2019.

Wrote the report

We sent a written technical assessment report two days after the presentation.

Planned the next steps

We recommended paired work with BACB developers, plus RxJS, testing and state management workshops.

The result

  • BACB received a written technical assessment and an on-site walkthrough of the findings.
  • The report advised fixing at least half of the existing issues before adding new functionality.
  • It gave a mentoring plan built on paired work on real project tasks.
